This project emerged while I was working at Mesa Community College. It is not uncommon for a community college to receive numerous donations. Useful objects such as cameras or teaching tools are kept but the items deemed useless are either thrown away or given to students. This project arose from a donation that at first looked like nothing more than trash. A box full of 1950’s family vacation slides collected dust in the photo lab. It was not until the threat of being thrown out did I take action. At first I was drawn to the vacation slides just for the fact of their nostalgic appeal. It was not until I started to overlay two slides at a time did the candid vacation photos become something more. Just by overlaying the slides I was able to change the meaning of the slide as well as add my own influence and interpretation.
